During the first quarter of project activities, 20 plastic windows were installed in Kindergarten # 14 as part of the energy-efficiency effort, as well as a winterized entrance door and plastic air heat curtains; and old frame openings were insulated. As a result, the number of colds among the children of this kindergarten dropped 9% during this period.
Under this project, an electric convection heater and a heat meter were installed in the vegetable storage cellar of the kindergarten; and the heating system is now being repaired to increase its reliability, reduce heat loss, and register saved energy.
Project activities that are broadly covered in the local press, also include meetings with the local administration; educational activities among children and parents devoted to the importance of energy-saving; setting up a Discussion Club for parents; and a whole range of activities funded by the grantee (planting phytoncide plants (based on ROLL experience), aromatherapy, and installation of air purifiers and air ionizers).
The successful fulfillment of the project became possible thanks to the active participation of parents, the staff of the kindergarten, and in, particular, its director A.Suvorova. All these activities produce a considerable energy-saving effect that will be fully estimated at the end of the heating season.
