Project news "Let’s Save the Nature of Kamenskoye Interfluve". February 2006

The project “We Shall Preserve the Nature of Kamenskoye Interfluve Area” was launched in December 2005 by Kamensky Rodnik LLC jointly with the Ural Environmental Union, an NGO from Yekaterinburg. In the course of the current quarter, this project has set up headquarters at the deputy mayor’s office to manage activities aimed at preserving the nature of Kamensk-Uralsky and protecting local rivers and their banks from pollution and littering. An emblem of the historical, cultural and nature complex “Kamenskoye Interfluve Area” has been created.
The mayor of this city, Mr. Yakimov, supported the preparation of an ordinance announcing the year 2006 a “Year of Clean Riverbanks” in the city. This event will revive the tradition of placing city nature areas under the care of local organizations. A contest for the best poster devoted to public participation in improving the banks of Iset River was announced in the local schools. The first prize of this contest will be a specially made set of notepads with the picture of the poster on the front page and the winning poster will be put up on a billboard in the city.
Two local newspapers, Kamensky Rabochii and Metallurg have already published articles devoted to the project. Work has also begun on the children’s environmental project “Our Care for Iset and Kamenka Rivers” during which schoolchildren have created a Web page and began collecting information for creating a video film. The project team prepared a press conference for journalists, leaders of the youth movement, and NGOs.
