Community Development Support Program News

In March 2009, O. Butovsky, FSD program director, S. Nikitenko, general director of INNOTEX Research and Production Center in Kemerovo, and S.Shchipitsin, director of Lena LLC, a small business in Novokuznetsk, visited Tyazhinsky raion, Kemerovo oblast, which is the site of a FSD sponsored project complex.
At a meeting with K. Solovyov, head of Tyazhinsky raion, the members of the delegation discussed the progress of FSD project complex – Motivating innovative approaches in the community and enhancing public participation by using examples of tested projects - which is coordinated by INNOTEX Center and includes four projects that are currently under way: 1) High-technology and cost-effective heating for cultural and social institutions; 2) Sustainable community development based on rational forest management (Profit from Waste); 3) Picking wild berries and producing syrups as food supplements; and 4) Starting a production of ciderplast to promote health in the community.

The residents of Chulym settlement in Tyazhinsky raion pick cranberry tree berries, from which syrups are manufactured at Lena LLC. At the meeting, plans were discussed for producing syrups from local wild berries at Itatsky Vegetable-Drying Factory/Consumer Society and packaged fresh pealed potatoes.

The guests met with N.Novikov, for whom log-processing equipment, an end reducer, was acquired under the Program. They also went on a site visit to the location where a Creativity Center will be built from materials produced by N.Novkov’s shop. In the Center, local artisans will work reviving traditional local crafts and mastering the production of articles from ciderplast.
