News, October 2007.

In October 2007, the Fund for Sustainable Development (FSD) won a 1,200,000-ruble grant for its program Emotional Rehabilitation of Children in Need of Special Social Protection in the annual contest of philanthropic socially-significant projects (programs) and activities held by the Moscow City Public Relations Department. This program, carried out jointly by FSD and its partners from the Ecological Education Center from Obninsk, is aimed at creating conditions for the emotional rehabilitation and development of disabled children and the pupils of Moscow boarding schools for children from problem families. The program’s team will apply innovative methods of emotional rehabilitation that have been worked out and tested in the process of working with children from Beslan, victims of the terrorist attack of September 2004.

During the three-month term of the project, child emotional rehabilitation programs will be developed on three model sites: the Hematological Department of the Russian Children’s Clinical Hospital (RDKB), the Child Personality Mental Health Center, and the Darwin Museum. The activities of the project will include: training for the patients and their mothers at the Hematological Department of RDKB; master classes for the staff of the Darwin Museum, volunteers from RDKB and other city hospitals and teachers from the Child Personality Mental Health Center; trips for children from three educational establishments (Child Personality Mental Health Center, Boarding School # 8, and School # 689) to the Ethnopark Exhibition where they will be taken on interactive excursions;  organizing the work of a children’s club “Let Your Heart Touch the Heart…” in School # 689; visits of children from all the target groups to the Darwin Museum; and a round table discussion for teachers working with disabled children.
