News. September, 2009

On September 22-24, at the workshop Environmental Education and Urban Challenges held in the Polish city of Plock, the Fund for Sustainable Development (FSD) presented its experience in promoting public participation in improving the social environment in the city of Nevinnomyssk. This experience was accumulated in the process of working on the Environment and Public Health in Nevinnomyssk and Other Regions of EuroChem Company Presence Program.

The workshop was attended by over 40 professionals from 11 countries of Central and Eastern Europe: municipal officials and representatives of regional development, transport and environmental protection ministries, universities, environmentally oriented businesses, education centers, consulting and engineering firms operating in the sphere of urban development and NGOs. The three-day workshop was organized by CIFAL (International Training Centre for Local Authorities from Central and Eastern Europe) and UNITAR (United Nations Institute for Training and Research) in the framework of their long-term programs.

EuroChem Company’s Program that is managed by FSD was presented as an example of effective interaction between a socially responsible business and the local government and community. In her presentation at the workshop, Elena Bondarchuk from FSD stressed that the Program was aimed, primarily, at developing the human potential and implementing a project education model to promote the sustainable development of the city. The best practices proposed by the community of Nevinnomyssk to improve the social environment may be replicated in many municipalities with similar infrastructures.
