Representatives of the Fund for Sustainable Development share experience of their programs at the International Conference on Fundamental Problems of Sustainable Development in the System of Nature-Society-Man

FSD projects managers Elena Milanova, PhD, and Elena Bondarchuk, PhD took part in the Second International Conference on Fundamental Problems of Sustainable Development in the System of Nature-Society-Man devoted to the results of the World Summit Rio+20 and the 155th anniversary of Konstantin Tsiolkovsky. The conference, held on October 29-30, 2012, in the city of Dubna, was attended by dozens of scientists from Russia, Kazakhstan, Kirgizia and Ukraine.

The conference, organized by the Dubna International University for Nature, Society and Man, attracted the attention of the broad expert community for sustainable development. The 100 participants included also A.A.Akayev, member of the Russian Academy of Sciences and Scientific Adviser to the Rector of Lomonosov Moscow State University; Professor Kuznetsov, President of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences; and Professor Boshakov, Head of the Department of Sustainable Innovative Development at Dubna University. The following events took place during the conference: a video club “World Summit Rio+20” and the round tables “Our Common Future – Our Common Cause”, “Konstantin Tsiolkovsky and Global Human Issues” and “Future Economics: Theory and Practice of Managing Development”.

This event was focused on discussing fundamental issues  of sustainable development in the system of nature-society-man in the context of papers developed by researchers of the  Scientific School of Sustainable Development that has been active for several years at the Dubna International University for Nature, Society and Man. Along with presentations on theoretical questions, the audience expressed much interest in the description  by FSD speakers of concrete community development support projects implemented during recent years in many regions of the Russian Federation. The presentation “Global Challenges and Environmentally Oriented Sustainable Community Development”  showed how important for the practical introduction of the principles of sustainable development  was an evaluation (in accordance with standard indicators) of the impact of economic activity on the environment in particular regions of the country, such as Lake Baikal Region, a model region of world significance. The Fund for Sustainable Development, as a non-profit organization, has developed a system of applying “social technologies” that facilitate the unification of society’s resources for the rational utilization of natural resources, which, in turn, harmonizes the system nature-society-man and contributes to local sustainable development. The profound experience of FSD that has been accumulated during the many years of fulfilling sustainable community development programs helps form conditions for introducing community-private partnerships through including a whole range of local resources into development programs
