The staff of the Fund for Sustainable Development presented the Community Development Support Program to the attendees of the Seventh Russian Municipal Reform Support Forum.

On September 24-28, 2007, over 100 representatives of various regions of Russia took part in the Seventh Russian Municipal Reform Support Forum  held in the city of Sochi in Krasnodarsky Krai.

The Forum was organized by the RF Ministry of Economic Development and Trade, the Russian Research Center for Government and Municipal Management, and the State Management University.

The participants in the Forum – government officials, scientists,  educators and experts – discussed  a whole range of questions among which were the progress of the local-government reform; problems facing municipal authorities; the first results of the reform; and an  assessment of the efficiency  of local-self government activities.

The Forum was joined by A. Shirokova, Head of Municipal Economics Department at the RF Ministry of Economic Development and Trade, and I.Babichev, Chief of Staff of the RF Duma Committee for Local Self-Government, who summarized some of the results of the municipal reform and spoke about the objectives of the current period.

The Fund for Sustainable Development presented its Community Support Development Program to the Forum. This program is aimed toward promoting the local-government reform and helping local administrators, citizens and business to combine resources for the development of their communities through addressing specific challenges. Many municipal officials expressed an interest in participating in the Program and stressed the constructive contribution of such programs to regional development.
