News from FSD Ural Regional Center

On January 31, 2011, the regional forum of the national program “Civil Society – Modernization of Russia” was held at the Ural Federal University. M.Merzlyakova, Sverdlovskaya Oblast human rights commissioner, invited L.Strukova, director of FSD Ural Regional Center (URC), to attend the forum, since representatives of the Center traditionally participate in all significant social and public events of the region.

Sverdlovskaya Oblast Governor A.Misharin,  adviser to the RF President and chairman of the President’s Council on Civil Society and  Human Rights M.Fedotov, and RF human rights commissioner V.Lukin spoke at the opening of the Forum.

The 140 participants attended various workshops where papers on regional development models were presented. These models are based on a combination of innovation in industry and innovation in the public and political life of society and are aimed at creating opportunities for economic development, conservation and the improvement of the quality of life. L. Strukova took part in the Conservation and Modernization Workshop that was moderated by Sverdlovskaya Oblast Minister of Natural Resources K.Kruchkov and member of the President’s Council on Civil Society and Human Rights S. Tsyplenkov. L.Strukova acquainted the participants with FSD’s program of supporting community development and the network of partner regional centers. Solutions to issues in all areas of development formulated at the workshops will be handed over to the RF President.

On February 2, 2011,  L. Strukova took part in a meeting organized at Gornozavodsky District, Nizhny Tagil, where she spoke about the successful experience of FSD community development activities and also handed over a collection of materials on community development best practices and a book “Environmental Business Ideas” put out by FSD URC under the CITI Program.

L. Strukova also attended a session of the regional government as a member of the Sverdlovskaya Government Commission for Conservation and Nature Management.
