Amur Initiative Phase 3 projects have been approved at the Fund for Sustainable Development Consulting Committee Working group meeting.

On July 28, 2010 in Moscow took place the Fund for Sustainable Development Consulting Committee Working group meeting. Applications submitted to the open contest of the targeted program Improving efficiency and integrity of rural drinking water supply systems in the settlements along Amur river in Khabarovskiy Krai. (Amur Initiative – Phase 3)” funded in partnership by USAID and Khabarovskiy Krai Government were reviewed and approved. This phase will help to develop and expand tremendous program success achieved in 2007-2009. Six practical projects devoted to providing safe and high quality drinking water in rural settlements located in the Amur river basin will be funded in 2010. Projects will help approximately 13 000 rural citizens currently suffering from intestinal diseases, hepatitis A and poisoning due to polluted water consumption. Significant reduction of financial and energy costs for clean water delivery to local citizens are also anticipated.

“Communal living enterprise Voznesenskoe+” Ltd.

Enhancing water supply system in Voznesenskoe rural settlement of Amurskiy raion

As a result of the project implementation population of four settlements of Voznesenskoe municipality (2560 people), social infrastructure facilities and other clients received 63 thousand cubic meters of drinking water with optimal organileptic properties in accordance with the Russian Sanitary Rules (SanPiN 2.1.4.1074-01) annualy.

Information about the project results was published in the municipal newspapers “Amurskaya Zarya” and “Amurskiy Vestnik”. It was also posted at the municipal administration website and other electronic and printed mass media.

Creating sanitary protection zone helped to avoid secondary water contamination and reduce risks of citizens infection by alimentary diseases.

Knyaze-Volkonskoe Rural settlement administration of Khabarovskiy municipal raion, Khabarovskiy Krai

Organizing constant running water supply for the kindergarten of Knyaze-Volkonskoe settlement of Khabarovskiy raion

The Kindergarten hosting 75 children and 17 staff members got a stable source of running water which meets the criteria of the Russian Sanitary Rules (SanPiN): 2.1.4.1074-01, 2.1.4.1110-02, 2.1.4.1175-02. The water stable high quality is guaranteed by avoidance of the storage tank use.

The level of fire safety is increased.

Children health improved in accordance to many criteria.

Korfovsky town administration of Khabarovskiy municipal raion, Khabarovskiy Krai

Establishing water pilelines in Korfovskiy workers settlement of Khabarovskiy raion

As a result of the project implementation 70 households of Korfovskiy settlement received stable running water source in the summertime.

The level of fire safety increased in the streets where the water pipelines were laid.

Information about this project was disseminated in the other settlements of Khabarovskiy Krai through the mass media (“Selskaya Nov” municipal newspaper).

“Malyshevskoe” Ltd.

Modernizing system of water supply in Malyshevo settlement in Khabarovskiy raion

Restoration of the second water well helped to provide rural citizens with clean water which meets necessary sanitary standards. This helped to remove shortage of drinking water  and prevent uncontrolled uptake of contaminated water from Amur river.

Equipment of five additional water providing stations helped to reduce impact on the existing water network and increase its lifespan. In the spots of water uptake sanitary situation improved.

“Heating energy enterprise” Ltd.

Creating new drinking water supply source in Hurumli settlement in Solnechnyi raion

Creating a new water well helped to provide clean and cheap drinking water for the school, the kindergarten, rural cultural center and all citizens in the settlement (3 thousand people).

Avoidance of using two remote wells, second rise pumping station and outdated water pipeline helped to save 320 000 KWh annually and considerably reduce reparation costs for the old water supply network.  As a result of this 7.8 million roubles required for capital reconstruction of the water pipeline will be reallocated to modernizing other parts of the communal network in the settlement.

The water costs for consumers were reduced by 3 roubles per cubic meter.

Three jobs for local unemployed citizens were created during the construction phase of the project .

Municipal Unitarial Enterprise for Communal Services

Creating deironing stationat the water supply tower in Troitskoe settlement in Nanaisky raion.

Settlement’s citizens (6571 population), social sphere facilities including schools, kindergartens, hospitals and other consumers received high quality and clean water that meets standards of Russian Sanitary Rules (SanPiN): 2.1.4.1074-01.

Information about the project was disseminated through the “Selskaya Nov” municipal newspaper and SAM magazine.
