USAID delegation visited Amur Initiative projects.

On March 2-3, 2010 USAID delegation headed by the Mission Director Keith Simmons visited Khabarovskiy Krai. The objective of the visit was establishing working contacts and defining potential priority areas for future cooperation. FSD was represented by Andrey Zaytsev, Deputy-Program Director. At the meetings with the First Deputy-Chairman of Khabarovskiy Krai Government, Minister for economic development and Foreign Affairs Viktor Kalashnikov and Deputy Minister for nature Resources Sergey Andrienko the problem of clean drinking water for settlements located along extremely polluted Amur river was mentioned among most attractive for the future cooperation. Later USAID delegation visited Amur Initiative targeted program implementation sites. It is operated by FSD under the support of USAID and Khabarovskiy Krai Government and was designed to help solving of drinking water quality problem. Guests got acquainted with concrete projects that helped to provide clean water to thousands of rural citizens and recognized Amur Initiative as an extremely successful activity. Currently the possibility of launching a new follow-up phase of Amur Initiative under the support from USAID and Khabarovskiy Krai Government is being reviewed.
