“Youth Votes for Health!” Program Announces Contest Results


Winners of the contest for the best hymn and slogans on the subject of “Healthy Life Style”

In the course of four months, schoolchildren from Belaya Kalitva participated in an open contest for the best hymn and slogan on the subject of “Healthy Life Style” held by the “Youth Votes for Health!” Program of Alcoa Foundation and the Fund for Sustainable Development. The main goal of the contest was to involve local schools in the creative activity of writing the hymn and slogans of the Program, to familiarize youth with the need to adhere to a healthy lifestyle through poetic and song creativity and to help young community members to realize their artistic potential. The judges of the contest noted the high creative level of the participants. Diplomas were awarded to the following winners in the contest: Yuliya Melnikova, Anastasia Gorbatova, Ekaterina Gorbatova and Anna Baturina from School No.6; Ilya Danilov from the school in Bogurayevo; and Olga Nazarova and her School No.3.

Teachers and students of the city and raion at the same time took part in another contest  for the best special series of lessons on the subject “Healthy Life Style and Safety” that was held to ensure the development and introduction of educational programs and lessons facilitating the formation and promotion of  healthy life style priories among young children and adolescents. In May, teachers N. Shiltsova and N.Savchenko from School No.9; N. Rubashkina from School No.5; L.Kostenko from the school in Bogurayevo; and G.Shinova from School No. 6 will receive certificates for the inclusion of their lessons in the school’s curricula.  In December 2012, the results of these special lessons will be summarized and the winners will receive their awards at a prize-awarding ceremony.

The promotion of health lifestyles is actively continuing in Belaya Kalitva and its raion through contests, special lessons and health festivals and also at the three new outdoor fitness grounds that will be opened in June 2012 in the yards of Schools No. 4 and No. 5 and College No.90. Experienced trainers and youth who had attended pilot fitness grounds set up with support from the Alcoa Foundation in 2011 at the Children’s Creative Center and School No. 9 of the settlement of Vostochno-Gornyatsky will share experience of using fitness machines for health improvement.
