Photo Gallery “We Are One Family – Nature and People”

News, November 2008.

Exhibitions of children’s creative works “We Are One Family – Nature and People” were opened under the “We Are In Charge of the Future Program” funded by Alcoa Foundation

Nearly 600 students from schools in Belaya Kalitva, Samara and Lubuchany Settlement (Moscow Region) took part in the interregional children’s environmental contest “We Are One Family - Nature and People” that was held in the summer of 2008 under the Alcoa Foundation “We Are In Charge of the Future Program”. The goal of the organizer of the Program – the Fund for Sustainable Development – was to give all creative students from selected regions an opportunity to depict the beauty of Nature and convey their understanding of Nature’s oneness with people and their awareness of those who can preserve it by using different means of creative expression.

The contest included four nominations: “Native Land through the Eyes of Children” (drawings and items made of nature materials), “Photo Eye” (photographs), “The Second Life of Waste” (items made of different materials), and “Nature and People’s Lives” (creative writing).

In Belaya Kalitva, where the contest was joined by 120 students from 10 educational institutions, the exhibitions were organized by the teachers of the Children’s Creative Center (coordinator – I.Seredina); and in Samara the exhibition was prepared and shown at the Metallurg Children’s Creative Center of Kirovsky District (coordinators – S.Lavrukhina and T.Antonova). Over 400 children from 27 schools presented 450 works for the contest. In Chekhovsky Raion (Lubuchany Settlement, the city of Chekhov, and Troitskoye Settlement), nearly 50 children took part in the exhibition that opened on November 18 in the school in Lubuchany Settlement (coordinator – A.Borisova).

These exhibitions became a notable event for both the children and their parents and teachers. The programs of the exhibitions also included concerts of young amateur performers. The exhibitions, which have already been attended by over one thousand people, will be continued: during the 2009 winter and spring school breaks, Samara (Kirovsky District) and Belaya Kalitva will exchange their exhibitions. This will initiate a new format of the dialogue between students who are learning to be responsible for their future, to seek like-minded people, and to work together.

The winner works of the contest will also have a long life – they will be used as illustrations for a multi-color booklet about the Program describing all the useful environmental activities of children from Belaya Kalitva, Samara and Lubuchany Settlement that have been accomplished in the framework of the “We Are In Charge of the Future Program” funded by Alcoa Foundation.
