The Program “We Are in Charge of the Future” is Successfully Continuing. A New Set of Master Classes was Conducted in Samara and Belaya Kalitva

In November 2009, a new set of master classes “The Methodological Basics of Organizing Eco-Social Activities for Schoolchildren” was conducted under the Alcoa Foundation Program “We Are in Charge of the Future”. Trainings for teachers focused on environmental soil studies (led by Moscow State University instructors A.Rakhleyeva and I.Martynenko), hydrobiology, water body conservation and air quality assessment in cities (led by A.Lyandsberg, director of the Ecological and Biological Center Krestovsky Ostrov at St.Petersburg Youth Creative Center).

The participants and guests of the master classes became acquainted with the intermediate results of the 2009 Program, and the progress and key achievements of 12 projects that are being carried out jointly by local schools and NGOs under the “We Are in Charge of the Future” Program.

Nearly 75 people attended the practical workshops in Samara: 33 school students and 33 teachers from Kirovsky District of Samara and residence and special correctional schools from Samara Oblast and also 11 after-school education teachers and representatives of non-profit environmental organizations. In Belaya Kalitva 38 people joined the master classes: 17 teachers from 12 city schools, 15 middle and high school students, 4 after-school education teachers from the Children’s Creative Center and representatives of the City Department for Education, a local NGOs (Red Cross Division in Belaya Kalitva), the press and the Public Relations Department of Alcoa Rus.

Of special interest to all participants and guests in both areas were master classes devoted to the best practices of teachers from Belaya Kalitva and Samara who took part in the Program.

 

The work of the Alcoa Foundation Program “We Are in Charge of the Future» that is managed by the Fund for Sustainable Development will be continued in 2010 and will involve children and adults with limited physical abilities.

Young guides from School # 96 in Samara conduct an excursion for children from residence schools of Samara Oblast in the framework of the project “Educational Environmental Trail” Guides of the Ecology and Ethnography Museum at School # 147, Natasha Mukhina, Marina Lashinina, Katya Svistunova and Ira Mishustina, led over 20 excursions in October 2009 for elementary school students and kindergarteners from Zubchaninovka settlement. This project is headed by biology teacher Galina Shishkina Twenty five students from correctional schools and residence schools in the cities of Samara, Chapayevsk and Zhigulyovsk and Privolzhsky and Kamyshlensky raions of Samara Oblast presented their small conservation projects implemented under the Alcoa Foundation grant
