News from the Program “Responsible Management of Water Resources for Sustainable Development”

Sustainable Water Management for Businesses

On February 1, 2012 at the Training Center in Samara, a seminar “Regional Water Management” was conducted as part of the advance-training course “Environmental Safety” attended by 26 representatives of the management and staff of 21 small and middle-sized businesses.

Galina Kotsubinskaya, leading specialists/expert of the Water Resources Department for Samara Oblast at the Lower Volga Watershed Authority, conducted the seminar.

The moderator presented data on natural and anthropogenic water pollution, provided a basic characteristic of the region’s water bodies; explained the procedure of keeping the State Water Register; commented on the legislation regulating the use of water resources by businesses; spoke about modern household and industrial sewage treatment technologies  and phytotreatment of iron containing water; and provided a comparative analysis of international and domestic treatment facilities.

The presentation included information on research carried out by scientists from Samara State Technical University under the program “Responsible Management of Water Resources for Sustainable Development” that is currently being implemented by the Fund for Sustainable Development with support from the Alcoa Foundation.
